Help! I've just been arrested for containing illegal contraband, what are my next steps?

You are arrested for the possession of illegal drugs. Can the police and commonwealth prove that you were in possession of those drugs. Let's say that the drugs were in a car, can the police prove actual possession or constructive possession of those drugs? For actual possession, is it on your person? Now let's say it's in the car and there's four people. If you say something to the police that indicates that you know the presence of the drug, they can charge you for possession. You don't have to talk to the police. Just the presence of narcotics is not enough. If they can't show statements or actions, they cannot prove anything. That's what we would look at if you were accused of construction of narcotics in Virginia
